7 Foods You Shouldn’t Keep in the Refrigerator, From Bread to Melon

There are many foods that do not require cold storage, and are even better left at room temperature or in the open air.

Here are some foods that don’t need to be refrigerated.

1. Avocado

If the avocado is not fully ripe or still unripe, just leave it on the counter to speed up ripening. Only ripe avocados can be refrigerated.

2. Bread

Bread can actually become stale and dry, when you store it in the refrigerator. Try storing it in a dry place at room temperature.

3. Honey

Storing honey in the refrigerator will make it taste bad, even changing its color and texture. It is best to store it in a tightly closed container and place it in a dark place.

4. Melon

If you haven’t cut the melon, don’t put it in the refrigerator. Because cold air will break down the antioxidants and nutrients in it. So store the melon in the refrigerator after the time has been cut.

5. Potato

Potatoes are best stored in a paper bag in a cool, dark place, they will last for about three weeks that way. Storing them in the refrigerator will cause the starch to turn into sugar, resulting in potatoes with an unpleasantly sweet taste.

6. Bananas

To keep bananas fresh, store them at room temperature with plastic wrap around the stems. The plastic wrap will stop them from releasing ethylene gas, which speeds up the ripening process.

7. Citrus fruit

Favorite citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruit are examples of fruits that don’t need to be refrigerated. These juicy fruits are best left in your kitchen counter fruit basket.
