Through the Darkness is a drama that presents a criminal theme. Set in the 1990s, Through the Darkness tells the story of the police who are faced with a serial murder case. The culprit is a mysterious figure nicknamed “Red Hat”. Red Hat’s pattern of serial killings is complex and difficult to predict. In order for the case to be solved quickly, the police got an idea to examine the personality of the criminal whose actions were imitated by Red Hat.

Uirimji Reservoir is one of the three most famous ancient reservoirs in South Korea with impressive views. Established in 2006, Uirimji Reservoir is located in the Jecheon neighborhood of Mosan.

In episode 2, Song Ha-young (Kim Nam-gil) visits the crime suspect Yang Yong-chul (Ko Gun-han) in this prison. The prison that became the setting for this filming was not a real prison, but a special place for filming and drama purposes.

Iksan Prison Set is a prison that was established in 2005 for the film Holiday. Previously, the place where this prison was set was an elementary school for boys. The prison set itself consists of a meeting room, an interrogation room, and a detention facility. The Iksan Prison Set is located in the city of Iksan, about 3 hours south of Seoul.

The Behavior Analysis Team came here to eat after Cho Hyun-gil was detained. This restaurant is the setting in episode 4.

Golmokjib Hwarogui Restaurant also known as Handaepo is a Korean barbeque restaurant. It’s at the end of an alley in the Seoul Hangangno neighborhood, in the Yongsan District.

Mulgogi—which means ‘fish’ in Korean—is a Japanese restaurant that serves sashimi and seafood. In this restaurant there is one spot unique, namely in the window. There is a poem written in red on a restaurant window and made in the Jeolla dialect, the poem is an interpretation of how a mother regrets not being able to educate her children well enough.

In the drama Through the Darkness episode 7, this cathedral appears when Song Ha-young (Kim Nam-gil) accompanies his mother to church for mass in the morning.

This cathedral, named Yakhyeon, is a Catholic church located in the Jungnim neighborhood of Seoul, Jung District. In 2012, the church was selected as one of the 100 regular filming locations for films and dramas by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Film Council, and was featured in a brochure The Places In Seoul Cinema Fell in Love With.
