Jakarta, IDN Times – Nail mines are still a serious problem in big cities like Jakarta. Many speculated that the nail mines were deliberately planted by tire repairmen in order to gain customers.

If the tire of the vehicle is stuck with nail mines, it can cause a punctured tire to an accident due to the vehicle losing control. Therefore, you can minimize it by avoiding some of the nail mine-prone points below.

1. The red zone is prone to nail mines

The red zone is the point where the most nail mines are found. There is a community that routinely clears nail mines and they designate several areas in Jakarta as red zone areas because there are many nail mines.

The Clean Sweeping Team (Saber) is the community behind this determination. They have volunteered to clear the streets of nail mines that can endanger motorists.

2. The hotspots for the Jakarta area

Here are some points that are prone to nail mines in several areas of Jakarta:

  • West Jakarta: along Jalan Kyai Tapa
  • Central Jakarta: Veteran Street; Jalan Letjen Suprapto (The area before the underpass towards Monas, near a gas station, and a red light)
  • East Jakarta: Jalan Raya Bekasi usually targets buses and trucks because there are many large nails
  • South Jakarta: Jalan Gatot Subroto, opposite the MPR/DPR building, Pancoran flyover, Satu Plaza News Building area; Jalan TB Simatupang, near the FedEx building, Jalan Metro Pondok Indah

3. Tubeless tires are not safe from nail mines

Nail mines can stick in all types of tires, including tubeless tires. If the mine is in the form of spikes, then the tubeless tires will not lose air quickly. But if the mine is in the form of an umbrella bar, the tubeless tires will still go flat. So, always be careful on the road!
