Anies Targets 100 Transjakarta Electric Buses to Operate in 2022

Jakarta, IDN Times – PT Transjakarta has started operating emission-free buses based on electricity on four routes. The inauguration was carried out directly by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, on Tuesday (8/3/2022) yesterday. Anies targets 100 electric buses to operate by the end of this year.

“Alhamdulillah, after carrying out a fairly long trial, today 30 electric buses are officially used for the TransJakarta route and by the end of this year, God willing, there will be 100 electric buses operating,” explained Anies, at the IRTI Monas Square, Jakarta.

Procurement of electric buses can be used as a solution to reduce pollution contributed by private vehicles. Anies said that vehicles are a big contributor to pollution.

“So we can do the problem of reducing carbon emissions, at the same time reducing the number of private vehicles we can do. That’s why we encourage electric-based public transportation,” he explained.

Based on the 2022 UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, efforts need to be made to accelerate the transition towards net-zero emissions.

“So this initiative is part of Indonesia’s commitment to contribute to humanity’s efforts to save the universe by reducing air pollution,” he said.

Anies said that Transjakarta electric buses have advantages, including noise pollution, which has the potential to decrease by up to 28 percent compared to diesel buses. In addition, CO2 emissions in the exhaust gas of electric buses can be reduced by up to 50.3 percent, and the energy efficiency level of electric buses has the potential to be 5 times higher than that of diesel buses.
