TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Bali United is slowly moving away from the pursuit of Arema FC and Bhayangkara FC in the BRI Liga 1 standings after adding three points. Additional points were obtained after Bali United beat Persela Lamongan 2-1 at Kompyang Sujana Stadium, Tuesday, March 1, 2021.
Tridatu soldiers have now won 60 points from 28 matches. They are five points away from Arema and Bhayangkara in the BRI League 1 standings.
Bali United coach Stefano Cugurra said that although his team managed to keep their distance, the competition for the title was still wide open. Therefore, he asked his team to continue working hard, where there were only 6 matches left in the competition.
“The most important thing is the result from Bali United, we are now at number one. If we continue to get three points, we will definitely be at number one,” said the coach who is familiarly called Teco after the match.
“But when other clubs like Bhayangkara and Arema don’t win, the points will go further and there will be fewer matches. So the more interesting it is, all the teams will work hard until the end of the season,” added the Brazilian coach.
In that match, Bali United fell behind to Laskar Joko Tingkir in the 39th minute through Rahel Radiansyah’s goal. Serdadu Tridadu equalized in the 64th minute by Muhammad Rahmat and Bali United’s winning goal was scored by Eber Bessa in the 81st minute.
“In the first half we controlled the game, but we didn’t have many chances. Persela could have scored first, they had the quality to beat our defenders,” he explained.
Teco kept asking the players to stay motivated in the second half and try to score goals. “We won that’s good, we stay at number one,” said Teco.
