Authorities in southwest Pakistan said Wednesday a side bomb explosion had killed at least three people, including a senior officer, and injured 24 others.
Initial police reports said the bomb was hidden in a motorbike, parked on the side of a main road, and targeted a police convoy in central Quetta, capital of Baluchistan province.
A hospital spokesman, Waseem Baig, said some of the injured were in a “critical condition” and he feared the death toll would rise. At least 10 police officers were among those injured.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
The outlawed ethnic Baluch militant group and the Pakistani Taliban, also known as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), routinely carry out attacks on security forces and civilians in Baluchistan. [lt/jm]
