First round

Despite facing a top team, Persik Kediri, who now occupies the eighth position in the standings, performed fiercely. They even had time to break into Arema FC’s goal in the 10th minute through the feet of Fahmi Al-Ayyubi.

Unfortunately the goal was disallowed because the assistant referee had raised a flag indicating the former Persela Lamongan player was standing in an offside position.

Arema FC actually had difficulty creating opportunities because of the tight defense of Persik Kediri. They just created a shot on goal in the 21st minute when Risky Dwi Febrianto’s free kick was still saved by goalkeeper Dikri Yusron.

At the end of the first half, Singo Edan’s squad also almost scored. Unfortunately, Johan Alfarizi’s kick still hit the crossbar while Carlos Fortes’ kick could still be pushed over by Dikri.

Second round

In the second half, Arema FC, who needed a win to return to the top of the standings, made substitutions. Almeida includes Dedik Setiawan, Sandi Sute, and Diego Michiels to increase the attack. They replaced Jayus Hariono, Rizky Dwi Febrianto and Muhammad Rafli.

The inclusion of the three players did not change the game much. Despite dominating possession, Arema FC still struggles to break into Persik Kediri’s goal.

In the middle of the second half, Persik was even more daring to put up a fight. They threatened Adilson Maringa’s goal through quick attacks from the wings.

The deadlock was solved in the 84th minute. Peach got a free kick in front of the penalty box after Diego Michels violated Antoni. Risna Prahalabenta did not waste that opportunity by releasing a hard curved kick that led to the top right corner of the Arema FC goal. Maringa who jumped to try to block the ball was helpless.

Efforts made by Arema FC to equalize did not produce results. Score 0-1 closed the match Arema FC vs. Persik Kediri. The result made the Singo Edan squad remain in second place with 55 points from 28 matches. Their position is threatened to be overtaken by Persib Bandung and Bhayangkara FC, who have only played 27 times and are only one point apart. Meanwhile, Persik Kediri rose to eighth in the BRI Liga 1 standings.
