TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Arema FC failed to realize their ambition of winning against Persik Kediri in the 28th week of BRI Liga 1, Sunday, 27 February 2022.
Competing at the Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, the squad nicknamed Singo Edan lost 0-1. Goalkeeper Adilson Maringa was unable to reach the pace of the ball from Risna Prahalabenta’s free kick in the 84th minute.
That one goal finally broke Arema’s hopes to reclaim the top position of the standings. They suffered a second defeat in a row so that their position threatened to sag from second place in the standings.
Currently, Arema are still in second place with 55 points from 28 matches, two points away from the top standings, Bali United, which has only played 27 matches. Singo Edan also has the potential to be evicted by Persib Bandung and Bhayangkara FC who are below him by a difference of one point.
Arema FC coach expressed his disappointment after the match. He considered his team playing poorly and not being able to create many chances throughout the game.
“We wanted to win but we played badly today, in the first and second half we created a few chances,” said Eduardo Almeida after the game.
“I am very disappointed with the result of tonight’s match,” Almeida added.
In that match, Arema striker Carlos Fortes had several opportunities. However, from several available opportunities, his efforts were always successfully broken by Persik goalkeeper, Dikri Yusron.
After this defeat, Eduardo Almeida will evaluate his team’s performance. He is now focused on preparing for the next match. “We will evaluate with this result for the next match,” he said.
The next match in BRI Liga 1, Arema FC will meet Barito Putera on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
