The palace, which was founded in 1679 AD, is located in the city of Cirebon, which is one of the milestones in the history of the development of Islam in the city of Cirebon. This palace was founded by the 7th descendant of Sunan Gunung Jati or Syarief Hidayatullah named Sultan Anom 1 or Prince Muhammad Badrudin Kartawijaya.

The establishment of this palace could not be separated from the desire of the Sultan of Banten named Ki Ageung Tirtayasa who appointed 2 princes from the Mataram Kingdom. To rule 2 sultanates. He was named Prince Badruddin Kertawijaya who ruled in the Kanoman Sultanate and was given the title Sultan Anom, while Prince Syamsuddin Martawijaya ruled in the Kasepuhan Sultanate and was given the title Sultan Sepuh.

Initially it started during the reign of Prince Karim, he was the VI Sultan of the Pakungwati Palace who had the title Panembahan Ratu II Mataram who was already pro-Dutch, suspecting Cirebon of collaborating with Banten to carry out a rebellion. Therefore, Sultan Amangkurat who is the father-in-law of Panembahan Girilaya asked his son-in-law to come to Mataram.

Panembahan Girilaya also visited Sultan Amangkuran, whose calling was a parent’s longing for their son-in-law. However, it turned out that he was not summoned as he thought, the summons was a punishment for Mataram’s suspicion of Cirebon.

Finally, Sultan Amangkurat I restrained Panembahaan Girilaya from returning to Cirebon forever. And until the end of his life and died in Mataram, he was buried in Wonogori hill in 1667 AD.

With a sense of sadness and regret, the two sons of Panembahan Girilaya returned to Cirebon to continue the leadership of their father. Due to the policy of the Sultan of Banten who was considered a descendant, the Pangkungwati Sultanate was divided into 3 parts.

Because it will be given to his 3 sons who are entitled to replace his father. Prince Karim got the Kraton, Prince Martawijaya got the Kasepuhan Palace, Prince Wangsakerta got the Kacirebonan Palace, and Prince Kertawijaya got the Kanoman Palace.

According to stories written in several ancient manuscripts, Pintu Si Blawong existed before the Kanoman Palace was established. Namely during the reign of King Sri Jayabhupati Pajajaran Kingdom as the 20th king.

It is said that Si Blawong’s door is believed to be able to connect to the unseen world. And the gate is still there and is still standing strong to this day. The door is only in three places, namely Kanoman, Padjajaran Kingdom, and Heaven.

Previously, this door was only passed by the royal family who wanted to go to Siti Hinggil. Currently it is only opened once a year and is only passed by the Sultan when he parades and wears Sufi clothes.

This palace is divided into several complexes with buildings such as:

The structure of the palace building faces north. Outside of that there is a Hindu-style building that is used as a seat at the time of giving speeches or attending ceremonies. The place is called Manguntur Hall.

In the center of the palace there is a building complex called Siti Hinggil, as does the name meaning “high land”. This building has existed since the 14th century AD. This building is also a witness to the spread of Islam in Cirebon.

In front of the palace there is a square which is used as a place for residents to gather or receive guests who want to enter to face Sultan Anom.

The Jinem anom page is an L-shaped page that serves to protect the core of this palace.

The Kanoman Palace Courtyard is part of the palace core. This courtyard was built by Sultan Anom III in a colonial style. The location is also next to Jinem’s Page.
