TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Persib Bandung hopes that Brazilian striker David da Silva will continue to maintain his good performance this season, helping Maung Bandung to win the BRI Liga 1 title.
Persib Bandung coach Robert Alberts said he was pleased with the performance of David, who scored four goals in his team’s last three matches. Most recently, last Tuesday night, David scored two goals against Persija which brought Persib to a 2-0 win.
“He keeps trying to get back the energy he previously had in Liga 1 Indonesia,” Robert said in a virtual press conference after the match versus Persija.
David himself had difficulties at the beginning of his work with Persib. Newly recruited in the second round of the 2021-2022 Indonesian Liga 1 season, this Brazilian footballer only scored one goal from his initial seven matches with Maung Bandung.
However, David played very well in Persib’s last three matches by scoring a total of four goals, one each against PSM and Persela and two goals against Persija. Now, he has recorded five goals from 10 matches for Persib.
David has a good record in Liga 1 Indonesia. While strengthening Persebaya in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he collected 20 goals and 14 goals. In the 2018 season, he even became the second most fertile player during that season.
However, David doesn’t want to call his current form a “back to top form” as the 32-year-old is just continuing what he’s been doing for years.
As a striker, according to David, it is appropriate to help the team with his goals.
“Indeed I need to adapt more actively because I only joined Persib in the middle of the season. However, I continue to force myself to fight and process. Hopefully we can achieve the target,” he said.
The victory over Persija boosted Persib to second place in the BRI Liga 1 standings with 57 points from 28 matches.
The opportunity for Maung Bandung to win the 2021-2022 season is very open because it is only three points away from standings leader Bali United.
Next, David da Silva and his friends will face the bottom team of the Persiraja standings on Saturday 5 March at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Stadium, Denpasar, Bali.
