Edhy Prabowo Sentence Circumcised to 5 Years, KPK: Disappointing

Jakarta, IDN Times – Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata is disappointed with the decision of the Supreme Court Judge (MA) to circumcise the verdict of former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo for corrupting fried shrimp exports. The Supreme Court decided that the former deputy chairman of the Gerindra Party was imprisoned for 5 years.

“Well, this is indeed some of the Supreme Court decisions related to the cases being handled, yes, from our side, it is very disappointing for the considerations made by the Supreme Court judges, which don’t seem to reflect the majesty of a court, we think like that,” he said. 1. KPK has not received a copy of the decision

Alex admitted that he had not yet received a complete copy of the Supreme Court’s decision. He had just read the news that was written in the newspaper.

“That’s already made my forehead frown,” he said.

Alex said there were a number of things the Panel of Judges considered in cutting Edhy Prabowo’s verdict. One of them is because Edhy is considered to have worked well by revoking the previous letter from the Minister of Maritime Affairs which prohibited exports.

“This is actually a policy, yes, the policy of the previous minister is like that of the current minister. The Supreme Court is as if the judge is judging, punishing the past policy is not right, that’s why it is corrected and considered as a good thing ,” he explained

Although disappointed with the Supreme Court’s decision for Edhy Prabowo, Alex emphasized that the KPK would obey the existing law. He ensured that the KPK would respect the law.

“No matter how bad the judge’s decision, we must respect it and implement it,” he said.

3. Edhy Prabowo’s sentence was increased to 9 years in prison

Edhy was initially sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 400 million and replacement money of Rp. 9,687,447,219 and US$77 thousand. However, he did not accept and appealed.

At the High Court level, Edhy Prabowo’s sentence was actually increased to 9 years in prison, a fine of Rp. 400 million, and compensation of Rp. 9,687,447,219 and US$77 thousand. He did not accept and appealed, until finally returned to the original decision.
