Held Indonesian Language Class, Indonesian Embassy in Bern Printed 200 Alumni

Jakarta, IDN Times – For the fourth time since 2020, the Indonesian Embassy in Bern in Switzerland again held Indonesian language classes for foreign speakers (BIPA). This time, there were around 50 people from various backgrounds who took the BIPA class for a period of three months.

The fourth BIPA class opens on Monday (7/3/2022). ​This fourth class will take place from March 7-30 June 2022. This year, the Indonesian Embassy in Bern held five (classes) of BIPA, namely beginner class (BIPA-1) to intermediate class (BIPA-5).

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Switzerland, Muliaman D. Hadad, expressed his appreciation to those who took the BIPA class. To date, the total BIPA participants in Switzerland have reached 200 people.

“The BIPA class is a good opportunity for Swiss citizens to get to know Indonesia better, considering that most of the BIPA participants at the Indonesian Embassy in Bern have never studied Indonesian before,” said Muliaman.

According to Muliaman, BIPA participants have various motivations to learn Indonesian. Some want to communicate better with loved ones, some want to study or do research in Indonesia, some want to do business in Indonesia, some are planning to retire in Bali, and some want to learn about Indonesian culture.

Among those enrolled during this period, there are 10 students from the Universities of Zurich and the University of Bern and their supervisors, who will be taking summer classes (summer school) at Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta next July.

The implementation of BIPA is the flagship program of cultural diplomacy at the Indonesian Embassy in Bern. This program is not only in line with the focus of the Indonesian government in introducing Indonesian culture to the world, but also promoting Indonesia as a whole, including in the socio-economic field.

The BIPA program of the Indonesian Embassy in Bern is also an achievement of the Indonesian Embassy in Bern which was able to support the success of the Indonesia-Switzerland trade agreement within the framework of the EFTA CEPA, and the success of the political field in the form of the MLA agreement.
