Is it true that the whiter and thicker breast milk the better? Turns out this is the fact – Breast milk is the best intake for children aged up to 6 months. Therefore, it is important for parents, especially mothers, to be able to give breast milk during this golden period.

But, often many parents do not know whether the breast milk given is sufficient or not. In fact, there is one way to find out the baby’s milk needs.

According to the pediatrician and lactation counselor from the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) dr. Citra Amelinda, SpA, IBCLC, MKes, said that one of them can be seen by measuring the baby’s weight, length, and head circumference.

“Therefore, it is very important to measure a child’s weight, length, and head circumference every month. So if we feel why there is not a lot of milk or the composition is rare, look at the child’s weight. If the increase is appropriate, so will the length and head circumference. , meaning that the breast milk is sufficient,” said Citra as quoted from ANTARA.

Citra said that parents need not worry if their child loses weight in the first week. As long as, he continued, the decline was no more than 10 percent. The reason, according to him, breastfeeding is actually a process.

“Breastfeeding is a process. It may not be much at the beginning. Don’t forget that we are not dispensers, so it’s impossible when a child is born immediately a lot of milk,” he said.

Citra also explained that good breast milk is not milk that is getting whiter and thicker because every mother produces breast milk with contents that are not exactly the same as other mothers. Even on the same day, said Citra, breast milk produced in the morning and evening can also have different contents.

“If the child is sick, the womb will be different again. So indeed breast milk is made according to the child’s needs. What is important is not that the thicker the better, but the important thing is that the breast milk is smooth, the child’s weight is adequate and appropriate,” he said.

It is known, breast milk is a basic need that is very important for newborns because it has a very complete content, full of vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, iodine, and many more. That is why, said Citra, breastfeeding mothers must eat good food because it will be shared with their babies.
