Kiai Miftah Resigns, Deputy MUI Gives Open Letter to PBNU

Jakarta, IDN Times – Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Anwar Abbas, delivered an open letter to the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU). The open letter was delivered after Kiai Miftachul Akhyar sent his resignation letter as General Chair of MUI.

One of the reasons Kiai Miftach resigned was because the mandate of the 34th NU Congress did not allow him to hold concurrent positions. This is because Miftah currently also serves as Rais Aam PBNU.

“I am really sad and grieving and confused and don’t know what to say. He, Mr. KH Miftachul Akhyar, we chose to be our general chairman at MUI unanimously without the slightest oval,” said Anwar in his statement, Thursday (10/01/2020). 3/2022).

Anwar said that Kiai Miftach was a humble cleric. His presence as the General Chair of MUI is expected to be a unifier of the people.

“But I wonder why NU did not allow and let him carry out this sacred and noble task, so I was really confused by him. What made me even more confused was because as far as I know, NU has confirmed its identity that he is not only only for himself but also for the people and for the nation.

Open Letter
for NU administrators and citizens.

OUR HEART
FROM MUI

I was really sad and grieving and confused and didn’t know what to say. He, Mr. KH Miftachul Akhyar, we chose to be our general chairman at MUI unanimously without any ovals. He is a very humble figure and scholar as well as a leader who is needed and is expected to be able to unite the people, but I wonder why NU did not allow and let him carry out this sacred and noble task, so I was really confused by it. What makes me even more confused is because as far as I know NU has confirmed its identity that it is not only for itself but also for the people and for the nation. But why doesn’t NU want to hear the inner voice of us – those of us at MUI, especially those who are not from NU?

Frankly, we need Mr. KH Miftachul Akhyar to be our leader. He has carried out this task well for more than a year, so that we feel very close and very dear and love him as our leader. For that to the leadership and citizens of NU. We want to say that we want him to continue to be our leader. If he is not able to work full time at NU because he has to take care of NU, we hope that he will give the rest of his time to us at MUI. For us, this is not a problem because we will still be able to work together as a collective collegial under his leadership and direction. God willing, with the great spirit of NU leaders and citizens who have allowed Mr. KH Miftachul Akhyar to continue to lead the MUI, we hope that the unity and integrity of the ummah will be able to be maintained and maintained and we will be able to make it even stronger than in previous times.
