VOA – The West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) or commonly known as the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) reportedly launched an attack in Kago Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, Papua, Wednesday (2/3) around 13.00 WIT . Eight employees of PT Palapa Timur Telematika (PTT) who were carrying out repairs to Telkomsel’s Tower Base Transceiver Station (BTS) 3 in Beoga District were killed in the attack.
Head of Information for Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, Colonel Inf. Aqsha Erlangga, said that information on the attack was obtained from one of the PTT employees with the initials AL by telephone.
“As a result of the attack, eight PTT employees died. This can be seen through the PTT tower surveillance camera footage. In the attack, one of the PTT employees survived named NS and asked for rescue assistance at BTS 3 tower,” Aqsha said to VOA, Thursday (3/3). / 3) night.
Aqsa explained that at this time NS was still at the scene with his colleagues who had died. However, officers have not been able to evacuate the victims due to weather constraints. It is planned that the evacuation of survivors and dead will be carried out on Friday (4/3).
The evacuation will also be assisted by the Papua Regional Police. The Papuan Police will also look for the perpetrators of the attack on the tower workers. “Because it is an extraordinary crime that resulted in the death of 8 civilians. So the handling will be handled by the Papuan Police,” said Aqsha.
KKB Also Attacks TNI Posts
It did not stop there, said Aqsha, there had been attacks and shootings by the KKB against TNI soldiers at the Dambet Koramil Post, Kodim Yonif R 408/SBH Task Force in Dambet Village, Beoga District, Puncak Regency.
“The distance from the shooting incident of eight PTT employees with today’s attack (TNI personnel) is approximately 15 kilometers. At 12:45 WIB, the personnel of the Kodim Yonif R 408/SBH Task Force were attacked and shot by the KKB,” he explained.
The attack began when 12 personnel from the Dambet Koramil Post, the Kodim Yonif R 408/SBH Task Force were carrying out patrols while repairing waterways at a distance of about 50 meters from the post. However, while repairing the waterways, KKB suddenly attacked and shot TNI members who were on patrol.
“There are about 15 KKB people and some carry three long-barreled weapons,” said Aqsa.
Then, TNI personnel from the Dambet Military Command Post, Kodim Yonif R 408/SBH Task Force managed to repel and force the KKB to retreat towards Ogamki Village, Beoga District, Puncak Regency.
“After the shooting incident, an inspection was carried out by the Kodim Battalion R 408/SBH Task Force. It turned out that one personnel on behalf of Pratu Herianto, a member of the Kodim Battalion R 408/SBH Task Force, suffered a gunshot wound to the neck below the ear. Currently, the condition is still conscious and stable and evacuated to Beoga Health Center,” said Aqsha.
The evacuation of Pratu Herianto to Timika will be carried out on Friday (4/3) by plane to get further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Pol. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that the 8 victims who died had the initials B, R, BN, BT, J, E, S and PD.
“The Puncak Resort Police has now formed a team to go to the scene to assist the evacuation process and conduct an investigation related to the (shooting) case,” concluded Kamal.
