Manchester City vs Manchester United Sunday, Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake Absent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Manchester City vs Manchester United duel will be presented in the 28th match of the Premier League. The Manchester derby will take place at the Etihad on Sunday, 6 March 2022.

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake will miss this weekend’s game. Both had to be sidelined due to injury.

Dias has an injury hamstrings, while Ake picked up the injury as his side beat Peterborough United 2-0 in the FA Cup fifth round on Tuesday night.

“Nathan and Ruben are not ready,” Guardiola said Friday afternoon.

When asked how long Ruben Dias will be out of action, the City boss said: “Muscle, hamstring. Four to six weeks. That’s what happened. Last season, our best players were out for months.”

Guardiola actually hoped his player would be available, but the opposite happened. Even so, he is not worried about the quality of his squad because they have a stock of good quality players to play with.

Zack Steffen is expected to sit on the bench after missing the last four games with a back injury.

Manchester City currently top of the table with a six-point advantage over arch-rivals Liverpool, having played one game more, need a win from this Manchester derby. Reaching three points can keep the distance from Jurgen Klopp’s team.

If you look at their meeting record at the Etihad, City have only won once from their last seven meetings with United. However, Guardiola’s men won 2-0 at Old Trafford in November.

“This is a derby for our fans, we are trying to win a derby which will help us win the league,” said Pep Guardiola when asked about the team’s preparations for United.

“Nothing has changed. We know how good our opponents are. You have to win most games. Not for the pleasure of winning, but winning games, last season we lost.”

Guardiola insists he wants to win in this derby. “This is not the Carabao Cup. It’s a game, we fight with energy on the pitch.”

“I look at the table from United, a few points behind us… I see they are very good.”

“It (the defeat to United) happened in the past, football has to be played with emotions, otherwise it will be boring. Must control emotions.”

Talking about City’s away record against United being better than playing at home, Guardiola feels there is no particular reason why that is.

“In all our games there, we played with more strength and quality than United. With (Marcus Rashford), (Jadon) Sancho, unstoppable and quicker, we defended deeper and counter-attacked.”

Manchester United, which currently has 47 points from 27 matches played, is fourth in the Premier League standings. The Red Devils must beat Manchester City if they do not want to fall out of the top four because the two teams below them, West Ham United and Arsenal are only two points away.
