Suara.com – There are still many misconceptions in the Jabodebek community who think that the morning air is better than other times. This assumption arises because it is considered that the air still feels cool, traffic conditions are still quiet, and air pollution is minimal.
It is not surprising that the public’s interest in exercising is great in the morning (around 05.00-09.00), including during the Covid-19 pandemic. In fact, based on the results of Nafas research throughout 2021, it shows that the AQI of Jabotabek in the morning between 04.00-09.00 is still quite high at around 100-160, which indicates the air quality is relatively not good.
This means, the morning is not the best time to exercise. At that time, people in Jabotabek were advised not to do activities outside their homes.
According to Prabu Setyaji, Data Scientist from Nafas, for someone aged between 35-45 years who exercise in the morning when PM2.5 levels are > 26 /m3 it is dangerous because of the risk of causing heart disease. For the record, the safe threshold according to WHO (2021) is PM2.5 = 5 /m3.

“It can increase the risk of heart disease by 33 percent,” he said, mentioning that the best air quality in Jabotabek occurs at 14.00. Air quality is getting better when there is heavy rain accompanied by strong to extreme winds.
Air quality in green areas where trees grow a lot is not always clean or free from air pollution, especially those caused by very small pollutants (PM2.5). This conclusion was revealed in the research results of Nafas, a startup provider of air quality measurement applications, during January-December 2021.
Nafas installed three air quality sensors in three locations, namely Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Cibinong and Sentul City. The three areas in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi and Tangerang (Jabodetabek) are areas that are surrounded by green areas.
However, Nafas data shows that the air quality index (AQI) in the three regions is quite high above 100. An AQI number above 100 indicates that the air quality is relatively unhealthy for certain age groups.
“This shows that the three areas are not free from pollution,” said Nafas Co-founder & Chief Growth Officer, Piotr Jakubowski in a Media Briefing entitled “Nafas Air Quality Report 2021” organized by Nafas, Air Talk and Katadata Insight Center, Wednesday (3/3). /2/2022).

According to Piotr, the number of trees actually has less impact on making the air clean and fresh. Because basically the leaves on the tree can not absorb dust. Leaves are only able to absorb gas, so they cannot significantly clean PM2.5 dust in the air. “So, trees cannot filter PM 2.5 pollution,” he said.
