Palestinian President Welcomes US House Speaker

The Speaker of the United States (US) House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, on Thursday (17/2), held a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the occupied West Bank.

During the meeting in Ramallah, Pelosi presented a US Agency for International Development (USAID) project that offered a recovery plan for businesses in Palestine affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

USAID in 2021 provided more than $110 million for development and humanitarian assistance in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Earlier Wednesday in Jerusalem, Pelosi said America and Israel’s relationship was “very close.”

Pelosi also underlined the Biden government’s commitment to a Palestinian state, which Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett opposes. [em/rd]
