Pratama Arhan Becomes Mainstay of the Indonesian National Team Ready to Fight in Tokyo Verdy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Pratama Arhan is increasingly recognized after performing well with the Indonesian national team under coach Shin Tae-yong. The left-back from Semarang became the mainstay of the South Korean tactician in the Garuda squad’s defense, especially when appearing in the 2020 AFF Cup at the end of last year.

Now, the 20-year-old is preparing to leave for Japan, joining a second tier club there, Tokyo Verdy. He signed a two-year contract from PSIS Semarang on a free transfer. The announcement about his move was announced on February 16 last.

The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, believes that Arhan can compete in Tokyo Verdy. “In my opinion, Arhan is a disciplined player, so he believes he can compete well in Japan,” he said when met on the sidelines of the U-19 national team practice at the Madya Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

He said Japanese football was very detailed so Arhan could learn well and later be able to set the best example in Indonesian football. “I believe he can be a more focused player in the game,” he said.

Shin Tae-yong was one of the people Arhan contacted for advice before he decided to join Tokyo Verdy. That’s what the coach said.

Arhan once revealed that he found it hard to leave PSIS, the club where he grew up since he was young. However, his great determination made him want to work abroad.

“Leaving PSIS was hard too, I came from the academy too. But this is for my career. I have no problem going forward to be better for my career,” he said after playing for PSIS three days after the announcement of his transfer, Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Arhan made his debut with PSIS Semarang in the 2021 Menpora Cup pre-season tournament. While in the BRI Liga 1 competition, he made his debut in September 2021.

Pratama Arhan became one of the stars of the Indonesian national team in this year’s 2022 AFF Cup. At that time he was chosen as the best young player.
