TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Newcastle United scored a fourth win in their last five Premier League games after overcoming 10-man Brentford 2-0 in the league game this Saturday night and this away win kept Newcastle clear of the relegation zone.
Brentford had been limp since Josh Dasilva was sent off in the 11th minute and Newcastle took full advantage when Joelinton put them ahead with a header from a header.
Joe Willock made it 2-0 after Newcastle’s counter-attack just before half-time.
Brentford barely threatened the Newcastle goal and even Christian Eriksen’s debut appearance as a substitute in the 51st minute could not spark Brentford’s spirit.
Eriksen, who joined on a free transfer last January, is making his first competitive appearance since collapsing eight months ago with a heart attack while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.
Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka did not experience any threat during this match.
Newcastle have overtaken Brentford to 14th place, while the eighth defeat the London side have suffered in their last nine games leaves them in 15th place just three points above Burnley who are 18th and have three games to play. thereby Reuters.
Crystal Palace vs Burnley
Burnley’s ambitions of moving out of the relegation zone came to a stalemate this Saturday night after a 1-1 draw against hosts Crystal Palace ended a run of two wins in a row and left Sean Dyche’s side stuck in 18th place.
Palace took the lead when Michael Olise beat two defenders down the right flank and then crossed for Jeffrey Schlupp’s goal.
Palace were very compact every time they lost the ball, but Burnley failed to register a single shot in the first half so they couldn’t test Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland.
But that changed one minute into the second half when Jay Rodriguez’s long ball was headed into the box for Aaron Lennon to have his shot deflected off by Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic for an own goal.
Burnley had thought they had beaten their opponent but Wout Weghorst’s goal was ruled out for offside. Instead Palace came close to scoring again after Wilfried Zaha’s shot hit the post.
The two teams were forced to share a point which left Burnley 18th while Palace moved up to 11th in the Premier League table, thus Reuters.
