Realizing a Woman-Child Friendly Village, Minister of PPPA to NTB

Jakarta, IDN Times – The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga visited the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and witnessed the signing of a joint commitment by ten regents and mayors, as well as with 13 village heads in East Lombok Regency, to create a Women Friendly Village and Care for Children ( DRPPA) in the region.

“KemenPPPA developed DRPPA because if you look at the regulations at the central level, there are already many regulations to empower women and children. However, once it is implemented at the grassroots, it is still a homework that we have to complete,” said Bintang, quoted on Tuesday (8/3/2022)

Bintang said that with the joint commitment between the regent and mayor, it was extraordinary to realize women’s empowerment and child protection.

However, the commitment of regional leaders must not stop just black and white, but continue to implement the five presidential directives which are indicators in the DRPPA at the provincial, district, sub-district and village levels.

The five directives are increasing women’s empowerment in entrepreneurship with a gender perspective, increasing the role of mothers and families in education or child care, reducing violence against women and children, reducing child labor, and preventing child marriage.

2. Hope the village head can empower women

Bintang hopes that village heads in East Lombok can also empower women through policies, village regulations, programs and all activities in the village environment.

“I see that the Regent’s policies in terms of women’s empowerment and child protection are good, so it is hoped that with a joint commitment, village heads can also accelerate the realization of DRPPA down to the grassroots level,” he said.

3. Maternal and child mortality and stunting are a problem in NTB

Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII for the Electoral District of NTB, Nanang Samodra, revealed that the problems in the Province of NTB regarding women and children still need attention.

The problems that exist include the high rate of maternal mortality, child mortality, and child mortality stunting. Therefore, Nanang appreciates KemenPPPA’s efforts that involve the smallest government roles, namely sub-districts and villages.

“After all, without a village head, the role of governors, regents and mayors is almost non-existent because the village heads and mothers are the spearheads in serving the community, especially in the fields of women’s empowerment and child protection,” said Nanang.
