Threatened with 5 years in prison, fined Rp 5 billion

Suara.com – The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) said that producers who are caught selling packaged coffee containing sildenafil, a type of strong drug or Viagra and paracetamol, face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 10 billion.

Paracetamol and sildenafil are a type of medicinal chemical (BKO) that should not be used in traditional medicines and processed foods, such as packaged coffee.

This was revealed by BPOM after successfully carrying out operations to crack down on illegal facilities that produce food and traditional medicines containing medicinal chemicals (BKO) in Bandung City and Bogor Regency on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

The threat of punishment and punishment is given in accordance with two articles, namely 136 of Law Number 18 of 2012 and Article 64 of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation.

“The results of this operation will be processed legally or pro-justitia, which leads to 2 actors producing and distributing illegal food and traditional medicines,” said BPOM in a press statement received by Suara.com, Saturday (5/3/2022).

According to BPOM, producers or perpetrators not only violate the legality or distribution permit of the product, but also endanger public health because it is produced in illegal facilities.

“Not in accordance with good production methods, and using BKO which should not be added to processed food or traditional medicine,” explained BPOM.

Previously, BPOM managed to find 15 types or 5,791 processed food fruits, such as packaged coffee containing BKO, paracetamol and sildenafil or Viagra in Bogor and in Bandung.

The processed food brands or packaged coffee are Kopi Jantan, Kopi Cleng, Kopi Bapak, Spider, Urat Madu, and Jakarta Bandung.

“Drugal chemicals such as paracetamol and sildenafil are materials used for drug production. If not used according to the rules of use (dose), these medicinal chemicals can pose a high risk and side effects that can endanger health,” said the Head of BPOM, Penny K. Lukito in a press release received by Suara.com, Friday (4/3/2022).
