Jakarta, IDN Times – PSSI General Chair, Mochamad Iriawan, said that the U-19 national team still has the potential to undergo an overhaul. There is no guarantee that players who are currently undergoing training camps (TC) in South Korea will continue to be in the squad.
“Yes, the current players who have TC to South Korea are all chosen by (national team coach) Shin Tae Yong. Of course, later I will submit it to coach Shin, is there a reduction or addition to the squad,” said Iriawan at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Friday (11/3/2022).
1. There is still a possibility for new players to enter
Iriawan said, there is still the possibility that new players will enter the U-19 national team. Moreover, in the future the competition will run again, be it League 1 or Elite Pro Academy.
The players who stood out in the competition could have the opportunity to play in the Garuda Muda squad.
“There are still many young players at the club, Asprov, and the EPA (Elite Pro Academy), so that later there may be new players. Therefore, we are waiting because they are definitely competing to appear in the World Cup,” said Iriawan.

2. Descendant players also have the potential to enter
Not only local players, descendant players also have the opportunity to enter the U-19 national team squad. However, specifically for hereditary players, Iriawan hopes that the players who are called upon can improve the quality of the team as a whole.
“If the descendant player is still old enough, we can take it. What is important is that he has quality as a team, not just individuals. We are waiting for Shin Tae Yong, who is clear if his descendants are old enough for the U-20 World Cup,” said Iriawan.
3. The U-19 national team will undergo a training camp in South Korea
The U-19 national team plans to carry out TC in two cities in South Korea, namely Yeongdeok and Daegu. In the two cities, Garuda Muda will face several trials, facing university teams, club youth teams, and also the South Korean U-19 national team.
“We have TC in Yeongdeok and Daegu. In Yeongdeok there is one trial, while in Daegu there are eight trials. Everything has been prepared by coach Shin Tae Yong. Surely this is a good foundation for the U-19 national team,” said the assistant coach of the U-19 national team, Choi In Cheol.
