Gadgetren – At the Apple Event 2022, Apple has introduced a new chipset called the M1 Ultra. This chipset will be used by Apple for the Mac Studio 2022 computer which was also announced at the same time.

Apple has previously released chipsets in the M1 family, which included the standard M1 in 2020 and the M1 Pro and M1 Max in 2021.

Compared to the three M1 chipsets that came before, the M1 Ultra chipset offers performance that has a base system taken from the M1 Max, making this chipset the most powerful among its siblings.

Apple itself used two M1 Max connected to UltraFusion technology to build the M1 Ultra to take performance improvements to the next level.

Both in terms of CPU and GPU, the M1 Ultra chipset has faster performance than the previous generation, namely a 20-core CPU consisting of 16 high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. The M1 Ultra chipset can also achieve peak performance by using less power.

For GPU or graphics processing, the M1 Ultra chipset uses a 64-core GPU that is capable of carrying out heavy work, especially for 3D rendering and graphic design applications as well as 8K quality video editing. The M1 Ultra chipset graphics card is claimed to have power 8 times faster than the M1 chipset.

The M1 Ultra chipset CPU and GPU are also supported by a 32-core Neural Engine to run Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing that can accelerate even the most demanding machine learning tasks.

According to Apple, the Mac Studio 2022 computer with the M1 Ultra can play up to 18 8K ProRes 422 video streams. This chipset is also combined with USB Thunderbolt 4 data transfer. For memory bandwidth, it can read up to 800GB per second and can be configured with up to 128GB of RAM.
