Don’t Wash Your Face Every Day, Dermatologists Reveal 5 Bad Effects!

Suara.com – A dermatologist reveals the mistakes that most people often make when washing their faces.

Generally, people wash their face every day when they shower or wake up in the morning. However, washing your face every day is actually bad for facial skin.

Washing your face can do more harm than good, especially if you’re battling acne and oily skin.

Dermatologist, Dr Eva Melegh has revealed five reasons washing your face every day is bad for facial skin.

1. Makes the face more oily

People with acne produce higher levels of sebum. Sebum is an oily, waxy substance that coats and moisturizes the skin, which is important for maintaining healthy skin.

“Washing your face too often can strip the natural oils from the skin’s surface, making it drier and often causing the body to produce more sebum to compensate,” says Dr Eva. The Sun.

Facial cleansing with a non-comedogenic facial cleansing oil followed by gentle exfoliation every 1-2 days is better than washing your face daily.

2. Causes facial freckles

Excess sebum is not the cause of acne and washing your face daily is not the way to get to the root of the problem.

The real problem with acne is the oxidation of sebum when it is near the surface of the skin. Then, this mixes with air and bacteria that causes inflammation to trigger facial freckles.

“If the sebum is allowed to flow and isn’t constantly cleared, the body will start to produce less sebum over time,” he says.

3. Makes red skin worse

If you have rosacea and are sensitive, washing your face with water can actually make the condition worse. This is because water contains chlorine which can trigger skin flares in people with sensitive skin and are prone to rosacea.

“But, the difference in water temperature for washing your face, either warm water or cold water can also trigger rosacea skin flares due to the widening of blood vessels of blood cells under the skin’s surface,” he said.

4. Eliminates good bacteria

Washing your face every day can remove good bacteria and make your skin dry. Good bacteria function to protect and maintain the skin barrier, which keeps bad bacteria out and locks in skin moisture.

“The skin barrier is very important to maintain moisture and suppleness of the skin. People who are prone to eczema often have genetically compromised skin barrier function,” he explains.

5. Make pores wider

Open skin pores and blackheads can be caused both by genetics, but also by a lack of elasticity and collagen production in the skin itself.

“Washing your face every day can make the skin less elastic and make the pores more open,” says Dr Eva.

Dr Eva also says it’s better to gently exfoliate every two to three days if you have normal skin. On oily skin, you can do it every one to two days.
